MOBILE APP DESIGN · 2015

The Oma Terveys App

Overview

Oma Terveys was redesigned as part of a broader strategic shift to establish mobile as the primary channel for digital healthcare services. Rather than functioning as a companion to an existing desktop experience, the app was redefined as the central touchpoint for managing personal health, enabling patients to access care, renew prescriptions, and interact with services anytime and anywhere.

The objective was not only to migrate existing users to mobile, but to reshape customer behavior and create a scalable foundation for future digital health services. By positioning mobile as the core of the service ecosystem, the redesign supported more frequent engagement, unlocked new service models such as chat and video consultations, and strengthened Terveystalo's long-term digital healthcare strategy.

Challenge

At the time, the existing Terveystalo app offered only basic functionality, limited largely to appointment booking, and did not reflect the broader capabilities of the Oma Terveys service. The task was to expand the app to include these core features while redefining it as the primary digital touchpoint for accessing Terveystalo's services.

The work required aligning functional expansion with a clear product vision, ensuring that the app could support a wider range of user needs while establishing a coherent and scalable foundation for Terveystalo's digital healthcare ecosystem.

Solution

I conducted customer interviews to understand how users were engaging with the service and to identify unmet needs across different usage contexts. These qualitative insights were complemented by analytics data, which provided a quantitative view of customer behavior and usage patterns.

Based on this research and the customer brief, I defined the core feature set, information architecture, and navigation models for the service. I then translated these into low-fidelity wireframes and, subsequently, into fully realized visual designs tailored for each application platform. The final designs were implemented across all supported platforms, ensuring a consistent and cohesive experience regardless of device.
